I created this new animated video to celebrate going to David’s magic show this week in Hollywood 🙂 Click the video to watch it.
I’m still on a David Blaine high 😉 Or maybe I feel this way because I hardly slept last night! I was too excited after the show to go to sleep.
Asi Wind also appears in the show. He is David’s friend, a mentalist from Israel. Asi is also in this NY Post article about David getting ready for this live tour. The article has a few big photos of David’s magic hideout (giant posters of Houdini on the wall). Super cool that David has a hidden magic lair somewhere in NYC! Do you want to know what tricks Asi Wind did? If not, don’t read this part! I loved the mentalist thing he did with little white envelopes, a credit card and slips of paper. He also did a few tricks with Rubik’s cubes.
Do you want to know what tricks and stunts David did onstage? If not, don’t read this paragraph! He did a puzzle trick, a swallowing a frog trick, a swallowing a wedding ring trick, human voodoo doll thing (touching one person but it’s the other person who feels it) and stabbing himself with an ice pick and the drinking kerosene and water to make fire and then put it out. Do you want to know what he did for his grand finale? At my show, it was the holding your breath underwater. UPDATE: David’s personal best for breath hold is 17 minutes. He did about half that at my show (8 minutes). Following that was an audience Q&A. But he’s said he may change up what tricks/stunts he does since he has so many shows to do in a row.
A couple of tricks/stunts I was hoping David would do but didn’t see: (1) making butterflies appear. I was very much hoping to see this because I saw in his SnapChat that he was testing out a butterfly lighting effect. The lights looked like streams of butterflies falling down from the ceiling! UPDATE: Now that I’ve seen some photos of his show online, I think I did see these lights in the show! At the end, during his finale? It’s not butterflies, but swirling white lights on a blue background. I just bought a light like this at Target for $20, part of their Halloween outdoor lighting. One of MY FAVORITE TRICKS that David does is getting a butterfly to land on him! It is in one of his older TV specials, when he is entertaining little black kids in the 9th Ward of New Orleans hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. (2) levitating. In his latest TV show, Believe, Criss Angel looks like he’s gotten sooooo much better at levitating! I was wondering if David’s been practicing to keep up with Criss??? Maybe not, since he didn’t do any levitating at my show (he said he might do different tricks/stunts at different shows though).
Revealing anecdote David told us during the Q&A part of the show: David said that after one of the other live shows he felt down about his performance. He thought one of the tricks/stunts he did wasn’t good enough. But his friend/tourmate Asi told him it’s not about being “good or “great.” It’s about being “better!” Like just get better with every show. I thought this revealed a lot about David’s personality = driven perfectionist? Kind of startling that he judges himself harshly when he is so successful, monetarily and with the number of fans he has. The arena looked packed and it holds several thousand people!
2nd David Blaine live show reviewed! Read about his show in Cincinnati on December 1.
I went to see the new David Blaine Live show in Colorado Springs, CO, last night! If you don’t know, David is a super amazing magician who is now traveling the US in his FIRST EVER live magic show. He’s said he may take the show to Europe next. I think he is going to be busy with this for the next few years!
I got VIP tickets as a birthday gift from my parents ($300 in Colorado Springs, but I think they are $400 in larger cities). I didn’t know what to expect as I’ve never done VIP before! I imagined he would hang out with us in a small room after the show, and autograph something/take a photo with every person in the room. Anticipating this, I drew a little angel for David! But I wasn’t able to give it to him.
Instead, we were ushered into another room/on the stage to line up for a quick photo with him, one at a time. The house photographer took the photo and it’ll be emailed to us later. David’s very mellow, and the whole thing went by very easily (this is the type of thing that gives me anxiety!).
Then, we waited in the VIP room and he came in awhile later with Asi Wind. Asi (Ossie) is a mentalist/magician from Israel and a super good friend of David’s who is traveling with him and doing one segment of the live show himself. I was standing verrrry close to David, as luck would have it! But I was too shy to want to participate in a trick. I watched him do about 5 card tricks at close-up range. They happen SO FAST! If you like a trick on TV, you can rewind it and watch it again. Live in person it’s just like – “Wow, what happened!” I thought since I’m into metaphysical/psychic things that maybe I could pick up on a “feeling” of what he was doing if I was close to him. But no.
Cool card tricks he did in front of me:
Putting the person’s card underneath their watch without them knowing, disappearing all the spades and diamonds out of the deck, using the number of letters in someone’s name to count down to their card in the deck, tapping the deck once and having a card move up to the top.
Everyone noticed that David had a Band-aid on his hand. We were all wondering if this is an injury from his ice pick through the hand trick!
I talked to a lot of people in the VIP room which made it fun. I sold my signed David Blaine card deck to one of the aspiring magicians there. In the VIP bag, you get the signed deck of cards, a mini black-and-white poster (I stepped on mine when I put it under my seat and ripped it), a cool black baseball cap with the DB logo (I’m wearing mine right now and it is comfy and cute!), plus the tote bag which is black canvas. We were supposed to also get a special laminated VIP badge and a laminated ticket that you can keep as a souvenir but the show guides told us a bunch of stuff got stolen! I guess from a truck parked outside the venue in Colorado Springs. They are going to mail them to us later, someone said.
What is David Blaine like IN PERSON?
Very mellow. Like he is in his TV shows! I sensed a flicker of anger/annoyance when someone, instead of taking back the signed card he was handing to him, shoved their cellphone in his face and just kept recording. And wouldn’t take the card he was handing them, so they could keep recording. It was rude, honestly. All over the venue it says NO RECORDING or PHOTOS, but during the last trick in the VIP room he actually asked everyone to take out their cellphones and record it. Some people were broadcasting it live on social media. Maybe he wanted that done to promote his tour?
When we went for our photos with him, the show guide said DON’T TOUCH HIS HANDS. The rules were you could fist-bump him (gently) or hug him. But when we met him, he grabbed everyone’s hands for the photo poses! I talked to someone afterward and we both said we were afraid to touch his hands after the warning. We didn’t want to hurt him. The reason was his hands are getting beat up from the tricks and stunts he’s doing. This live tour is 40 cities with a grueling 3-day on, 1-day off schedule. He said he is only eating on his days off! Poor David! He wanted a challenging pace to make the whole tour a Houdini-esque test of his endurance. I’m thinking he chose 40 cities because of Jesus’ 40 days struggling in the desert?
What was he wearing?
He always wears ALL BLACK. Black t-shirt, black jeans. Even his tennis shoes are black! I took a psychic development class where the teacher told us artists and musicians and entertainers often wear black because they have so much colorful stuff going on inside their heads…they like to keep their clothes simple, like a blank canvas.
Merchandise for sale:
Black or white t-shirts ($30) and baseball caps ($25). I’ve heard other venues were selling cards. Maybe these got stolen? Or they sold out?
Come back and read my review of David Blaine’s magic show in Cincinnati! (December, 2017)
That is the title of one of Criss Angel’s latest BeLIEve TV show episodes: Raise the Dead! I wasn’t prepared and started watching this right before bedtime! Super disturbing! I couldn’t stop watching it, though, and replayed it three times. What magician Criss Angel does is get a cadaver that was donated to science (a dead body). Then he has an audience member lie down on a gurney next to it. He tells her that in order to bring life back to this dead body for just a moment (he has a doctor watching for signs of a heart beat and respiration/breathing), he needs to take a life FOR JUST A MOMENT. But he promises the girl that she will leave the show the same way she came in (like hopefully not possessed with this dead person’s spirit!). She agrees. I would really like to interview her about her experience. Fascinating, but scary!
Switching bodies is similar to what the ancient Egyptians were able to accomplish: putting a dead person’s soul into someone else’s body or the body of an animal. That’s why so many pharaohs had the head of a hawk or a dog, etc.
It makes me wonder what these magicians do in their secret magic societies! Like do they meet at midnight under a full moon and switch bodies or briefly become wolves?
There is something similar in metaphysics called a “walk-in.” This is when a high-level spiritual teacher, instead of dying, switches bodies with someone else. That way, the spiritual teacher doesn’t have to go through another 3 years of potty training and learning to walk and another 12 years of boring schooling. They just resume their life as an adult in someone else’s body. Supposedly, the other person agrees to this and they die. Yet people think they are still living because their body is still walking around – but it’s the other person! Freaky.
A less weird thing to compare it to is bedtime. Where do you go when you are sleeping? You leave your body all night. Some people call this “astral traveling.” At night, you are out of your body and having “dreams” or other experiences. Native shamans can do this willingly, as well as buddhas and Indian gurus.
So, back to the super creepy Raise the Dead episode! I don’t even know if I should tell you the gross thing that happens! I covered my eyes during parts of it. You’ll have to watch it for yourself. Criss has 2 nursing students take the pulse of the cadaver and the live person. For a few moments, the live person has no pulse. And the cadaver has one! Aaargh! Scary! However, this isn’t the same as bringing back the dead. Because I don’t think it was the dead guy back in his body. I think the woman’s soul/spirit was briefly transferred over to the dead body. Freaky!
If Criss can do this, he can create a Frankenstein monster.
Obviously, I am a huge David Blaine fan and I’m going to his show for my birthday! But I started watching Criss Angel’s latest TV Show called BeLIEve (it’s available on Amazon Fire stick). The name is based on Houdini famously telling his wife to contact him with a psychic medium after his death. He told her a secret word that only they knew. So, if the psychic really contacted him after death, she should listen for this word. The word was “Believe.” But, according to Houdini’s wife, she never found a psychic good enough to tell her this password! Which is weird because I firmly believe in psychics. In fact, that is why I like magic! Some of the magic tricks seemed based on psychic talents. Like the mentalism ones where someone guesses what number you picked or what card you picked.
I think some of the other magic tricks, like levitating and making things disappear/appear, are talents from past lives. Previously, these magicians lived in Atlantis, I think, and gained great psychic abilities. If you don’t know, when Atlantis drowned some of the “black magi” = “magi-cians” moved to Egypt and became super-powerful pharaohs. Thus, there is a correlation between Atlantis and ancient Egypt. No surprise that Criss performs his Vegas show at the Luxor = an Egyptian pyramid-shaped casino!
I hadn’t watched any of Criss Angel’s TV shows since his early MindFreak days. He has gotten A LOT BETTER at levitating! Back in the day, David Blaine did some levitating in his TV show. He sort of fell over in a heap on the ground ;( Criss did some levitating and he didn’t get very far off the ground, either. But now he can basically fly! Supposedly, if you learn to control and direct your energy, you can focus the energy below your feet to create a blast-off effect, like a rocket. It is weird and freaky, but I believe they are both really levitating!
I have read Diana Cooper’s books about Atlantis, and she describes beautiful floating temples. To enter, you’d have to levitate off the ground and fly through the front door! If you weren’t an advanced enough person, you’d be stuck on the ground and unable to enter the esteemed temple.
My favorite trick that I’ve seen Criss Angel do in his TV show is make a stuffed animal come to life. It is so cute!!! If I was magical like him, I’d do cute tricks like this every day <3.
My second favorite trick I’ve seen Criss do on TV is turning on a lightbulb using the electricity from a PERSON! Tell us how to do it, Criss, so we can stop burning coal to power our electric plants! This is similar to Tesla, who said we can get energy freely from the ground or from lightning strikes. There is electricity all around us, if you think about. We just need to know how to harness it and how to safely distribute it. When’s the last time you got zapped by static electricity? It hurt, didn’t it? It was pretty strong electricity! And there is electricity INSIDE OF US, in our hearts which beat from an electrical pulse.
OK, so I have a little crush on David Blaine! AND much to my delight he announced his tour dates for his NEW, FIRST EVER live show and he is coming to Colorado Springs where I live! Yay! I got VIP tickets so I can meet him and either get an autograph or a photo with him.
The funny thing is I have an autographed book of his…but it doesn’t have my name on it! I bought it on eBay so the inscription is written to someone else 😉 I’m thinking of bringing that book so he can autograph it, but I don’t know where it is. I’m in the midst of deciding where to move to next, and I have a bunch of boxes packed. I just saw my David Blaine magic DVDs and packed them, but maybe those will be easier to find and I’ll bring one of those.
I’m very excited!!! The show here is in June. Look on the David Blaine Live Facebook page for cities/dates/tickets.
Did you know that psychic Sylvia Browne hinted that David Blaine is Houdini’s son on The Other Side? I believe it!
I was browsing at Barnes and Noble bookstore, looking for a biography or the autobiography of Putin. The Russian president has recently been on “60 Minutes” (if you search online for 60minutesovertime you may still find some clips) and is in the news for his bombing of ISIS in Syria (some dispute this). I’m currently reading his bio as written by English writer Chris Hutchins and a Russian co-author on my Kindle. It’s just called “Putin.” It’s good, but it was written in 2012 so nothing about the Sochi Olympics or Syria, etc.
I didn’t find any Putin books to buy, but I found one on Houdini! I really love Houdini, the most famous magician. He spent part of his childhood in Appleton, Wisconsin, very near to where I was born and grew up! Not many super successful people come out of Wisconsin (Greta van Sustern comes to mind, on FOX), so it’s inspiring that he was once walking the same streets I did. The book is called “The Secret Life of Houdini” and it’s written by Bill Kalush, who works with magician David Blaine, and a co-author. It’s very well researched, with tons of photographs of Houdini. I love old photos! I haven’t started reading it yet. I’ve just being flipping through it and looking at the pictures 😉 I don’t have much patience for reading anymore – I guess I can blame the internet for that!
