I get a lot of people commenting and searching for this. I answered this previously in a comment on this blog. David has a “Parental Advisory” sticker on his show posts. But there is nothing sexual and no profanity in his show (unlike most shows, I might add). However, there is some gross stuff like needles and ice picks stuck into body parts! David asked a young kid interested in doing magic up on stage at both of the shows I saw in 2017. So if you have a budding magician, I think it would be a great show for them to see!
David has a new list of live shows for MAY – JULY, 2018. All over the United States and a few in Canada. I mistakenly thought the shows were all going to be in Vegas 😦 That would have been easy and cheap for me because I now live in Vegas! I am going to his Hollywood show in May 🙂

I am back from Cincinnati where I saw the David Blaine Live Show for the second time!!! Tomorrow night (December 4, 2017) is his LAST LIVE SHOW.
David was very nice! I got the VIP ticket again which includes a photo with him (taken by a professional photographer – you get a link and can find your photo online) and he comes and does card tricks just to the VIP group before the show starts. I gave him an angel of protection I drew and he was very sweet about it (he may need it!). He first did a magic card trick for a guy in a wheelchair, which was thoughtful of him. He messed up 2 of his card tricks… he joked maybe he shouldn’t do a show tonight 😉
In the Lobby
Fans coming into the venue could also get a photo with him and his autograph. David snuck into the lobby and let people mob him!
There Was Blood
The Cincinnati show was in the art deco Taft Theatre downtown. Some things were missing from the other show I saw (only a couple things). And instead of shoving an icepick through his hand (he had a visible hole in his hand!), he stabbed it through his bicep. Last time, he mysteriously didn’t bleed….but this time he came back onstage with a bandage on his arm and you could see blood on it. The blood spot got bigger as the show went on = real blood!
Real or Not?
The guy I sat next to explained to me how David might be doing some of his tricks. But he said the ice pick stunts, swallowing the frogs (he swallowed 2 frogs again!) and holding his breath were all very real.
I think my favorite trick is the swallowing, regurgitating and then re-swallowing the frogs! He assured us the frogs are still alive. It sounded like he keeps using the same 2 frogs as he told us he let his daughter name them: Candy and Cane.
Other tricks I saw again: sewed his lips shut, puzzle trick, Asi Wind did same tricks (credit card, Rubik’s cubes), hidden ice pick under styrofoam cups, swallowing a ring and returning it on a hanger…. In the VIP room, he did the cool card trick where your card ends up being a miniature card that the Queen of Hearts is holding 🙂
Held Breath for 10 Minutes!
How long did he hold his breath for? 10 MINUTES! Wow. In Colorado, he held his breath underwater for 8 minutes (at high altitude).
Mysterious in All Black
What did he look like? Exactly the same because he wears the same outfit every day! ha ha ha. I find this interesting because books on connecting with people recommend wearing something eye-catching that can start a conversation, such as a bright sparkly peacock pin. New people you meet will invariably remark on how cute your pin is. It gives them something to talk about and helps them remember you in the future. So it could be part of his act that he always wears black (black T-shirt, black jeans, black button-up Oxford shirt, black tennis shoes, black socks). Does he go crazy on his days off and wear red or blue? Should I start dressing in all- purple outfits so people remember me???
Last David Blaine Live Shows Ever?
David said his brother was at the show and I saw Bill Kalush, his friend that you see in his book and videos. At the Colorado Springs show I saw, David said he wanted to take the live show to Europe…at this show, David said this may be the last time you see him in this format. Someone in the audience mistakenly clapped, and he said, “No, that’s not a good thing!” Is he not planning on doing more live shows? Because of the money he needs to self-finance them, or because of the sex scandal or because the shows are just too exhausting for him?
After he did the amazing 10-minute breath hold, he didn’t allow audience questions this time, but he did talk to us. Mostly about his mother. He ended the show by telling us, “God bless!” So he believes in God. (haters say magic is evil) I wonder what it is like to have an adoring audience? He seems to take it as a serious responsibility.
City of Cincinnati
I was surprised at how much I liked Cincinnati. Downtown was very cool, like a small Chicago. The downtown is very walkable, but a bit blighted. And I didn’t know that Cincinnati gets mild winters! It was sunny and warm enough to walk around with your winter jacket unzipped during the day (in December). Nothing like winters in Wisconsin, where I grew up! (lots of snow, super cold and dreary skies) My Lyft driver told me people freak out if it snows 2 inches! It’s also very hilly, with lots of trees. I kept thinking it looked more like Kentucky to me…then I found out the Cincinnati airport is actually across the border in Kentucky 🙂
After Show Blues
David has a very uplifting energy. It’s great to be in his energy field, but when I leave it after the show is over I get very bummed 😦
I saw this magazine advertised on Instagram. It’s very artsy and weird! It’s called The Travel Almanac. You can choose from different covers. I chose magician David Blaine even though another model has come forward accusing him of date rape in 1997! She hasn’t given the details to the press yet, but she filed paperwork with the NYC police. There are no statute of limitations for rape in either NYC or London. So, I am unsure if I should still be a fan or not…. I am awaiting further news stories about these accusations. What do you think? Tell me in the comments.
I like these David Blaine photos, especially the one where he is caring for his frogs! I saw him do the frog trick in his David Blaine Live show last summer.
If you buy The Travel Almanac magazine, you get a whole separate booklet called David Blaine Travel Diary. BUT MOST OF THE PHOTOS ARE NOT OF DAVID or his tricks!!!
Instead, you get a bunch of weird, random photos. Like these disturbing images of Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. I thought these were especially strange since Katrina was years and years ago. None of the photos are captioned, so you have to guess what you are looking at (lazy editing). I thought the photos were taken by a friend of David’s who David didn’t want to say sucks at photography! So imagine my surprise when I Google the photographer and find out he’s a famous fashion photographer! He’s done campaigns for fashion designer Marc Jacobs! Wikipedia says his style is “amateur photography.” Ummm, yeah. My Instagram photos are 10,000 times better than these. So prepare yourself if you spend the $20 for the magazine. LOL.
MOST of the photo booklet pages are like this photo! Hazy photos of ugly destroyed homes, empty construction sites, homeless people…. I don’t get it! Where’s David?
I do like this gargoyle photo. Gargoyles are meant to look scary and demonic. The dark imagery in this booklet combined with the accusations against David make me wonder if he is in fact a black soul? Black souls are very dangerous (like Hitler) and have no qualms about manipulating people and abusing people to get what they want. I thought David had reached a very high level of spirituality where things are available to you that advanced people like the Atlanteans and the ancient Egyptians knew how to do: levitation, moving objects telepathically, feeling no pain, etc. But maybe he is an advanced dark soul? The original “magicians” were the black magi of Atlantis and their darkness caused the whole society to collapse!
Inside the magazine is a newish interview with David. The interview isn’t dated, but it’s definitely before the rape allegations surfaced. It’s confusing time wise because David says he is on a break from his tour, but never mentions the shows he postponed in June…so was this interview recorded before June? I would have asked him questions about why he had to postpone the shows (family bereavement but he never talked about who died). He tells the interviewer that something went wrong on the tour and he flew home to New York to see doctors, but the interviewer doesn’t ask him WHAT HAPPENED?
Here’s what David says:
Q: Was there ever a moment when you felt “I need to stop?”
A: That just happened recently for the first time. Suddenly I became aware that the last thing I wanted to do is to leave my daughter alone. She has her mother and grandma and they’re amazing, but the last thing I want to do is disappoint her with something I did wrong. That happened on this tour recently, that’s why I flew back to New York instead of going to Italy, to make sure I was physically okay.
I honestly think next time David should just hire me to do the photos and the writing 😉
I was going to write today about the Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney coming forward to say she was molested by a coach. I wanted everyone to read the last sentence in her Instagram post: “Our silence has given the wrong people power for too long, and it’s time to take our power back.”
This comes on the heels of the #metoo hashtag campaign on Twitter (What woman HASN’T been harassed or molested?). And the scores of actresses coming out against powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
I clicked on The Daily Mail website today to see the headline, “David Blaine accused of rape by model.” The full story is on The Daily Beast (it’s loading really slowly – everyone is reading it right now!). I am shocked. I am a big fan of David’s and I went to see his live show this year, and I have tickets to see it again in December. I don’t know what to say.
Most of the comments on The Daily Mail story say why accuse someone so many years later (from 2004) and how can it even be proven or disproven at this point? Oddly, when I went to see David in Colorado Springs, CO, I had drawn this angel for him (but I didn’t have the nerve to give it to him!). Maybe he really needed this.
I just saw on Facebook that David rescheduled the shows he missed.
The new dates are in late November and early December:
- November 30 PITTSBURGH
- December 1 CINCINNATI
- December 3 CLEVELAND
- December 4 INDIANAPOLIS
In a new twist, David writes that you can see him BEFORE THE SHOW performing magic in the lobby! Maybe this replaces the VIP room? UPDATE: VIP tickets are available for these dates! I am thinking of attending the Cincinnati show 🙂 UPDATE #2: I bought VIP tickets for the Cincinnati show!!! It’s in an historic Art Deco theater 🙂 I like that David/his team have been choosing cool, artsy, smaller theaters. I looked into going to his last show in Indianapolis but it appears to be SOLD OUT! The links on his page don’t go anywhere.

In other magic news, I saw the Criss Angel show at the Luxor in Vegas. I wrote a bunch of notes to write up a review for you, but the short version is it’s VERY LOUD! Like very, very loud! I liked heavy metal back in the day, but I don’t listen to it anymore so it got to be a bit much. I loved the video screens and how the video matched up with live elements. You’d see dust and debris swirling on the video screens (in a dystopian world), and then there’d be real debris swirling around the stage!
P.S. I moved to Vegas!!! So far, it’s loud and crazy!!! I haven’t even been back to The Strip since I moved here because my move has been so tortuous. Vegas is a fun place to drive around. The desert landscape is eerie, like Mars. Realllllllly good food 😉 The heat (100 degrees) hasn’t bothered me much. The constant plane, car, people noise has, though. I’m still getting my place put together (furniture hasn’t arrived yet). Looking for a good part-time job. My other part-time job is doing cartoon animations on fiverr (newagestudies).
I’m still on a David Blaine high 😉 Or maybe I feel this way because I hardly slept last night! I was too excited after the show to go to sleep.
Asi Wind also appears in the show. He is David’s friend, a mentalist from Israel. Asi is also in this NY Post article about David getting ready for this live tour. The article has a few big photos of David’s magic hideout (giant posters of Houdini on the wall). Super cool that David has a hidden magic lair somewhere in NYC! Do you want to know what tricks Asi Wind did? If not, don’t read this part! I loved the mentalist thing he did with little white envelopes, a credit card and slips of paper. He also did a few tricks with Rubik’s cubes.
Do you want to know what tricks and stunts David did onstage? If not, don’t read this paragraph! He did a puzzle trick, a swallowing a frog trick, a swallowing a wedding ring trick, human voodoo doll thing (touching one person but it’s the other person who feels it) and stabbing himself with an ice pick and the drinking kerosene and water to make fire and then put it out. Do you want to know what he did for his grand finale? At my show, it was the holding your breath underwater. UPDATE: David’s personal best for breath hold is 17 minutes. He did about half that at my show (8 minutes). Following that was an audience Q&A. But he’s said he may change up what tricks/stunts he does since he has so many shows to do in a row.
A couple of tricks/stunts I was hoping David would do but didn’t see: (1) making butterflies appear. I was very much hoping to see this because I saw in his SnapChat that he was testing out a butterfly lighting effect. The lights looked like streams of butterflies falling down from the ceiling! UPDATE: Now that I’ve seen some photos of his show online, I think I did see these lights in the show! At the end, during his finale? It’s not butterflies, but swirling white lights on a blue background. I just bought a light like this at Target for $20, part of their Halloween outdoor lighting. One of MY FAVORITE TRICKS that David does is getting a butterfly to land on him! It is in one of his older TV specials, when he is entertaining little black kids in the 9th Ward of New Orleans hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. (2) levitating. In his latest TV show, Believe, Criss Angel looks like he’s gotten sooooo much better at levitating! I was wondering if David’s been practicing to keep up with Criss??? Maybe not, since he didn’t do any levitating at my show (he said he might do different tricks/stunts at different shows though).
Revealing anecdote David told us during the Q&A part of the show: David said that after one of the other live shows he felt down about his performance. He thought one of the tricks/stunts he did wasn’t good enough. But his friend/tourmate Asi told him it’s not about being “good or “great.” It’s about being “better!” Like just get better with every show. I thought this revealed a lot about David’s personality = driven perfectionist? Kind of startling that he judges himself harshly when he is so successful, monetarily and with the number of fans he has. The arena looked packed and it holds several thousand people!
2nd David Blaine live show reviewed! Read about his show in Cincinnati on December 1.
I went to see the new David Blaine Live show in Colorado Springs, CO, last night! If you don’t know, David is a super amazing magician who is now traveling the US in his FIRST EVER live magic show. He’s said he may take the show to Europe next. I think he is going to be busy with this for the next few years!
I got VIP tickets as a birthday gift from my parents ($300 in Colorado Springs, but I think they are $400 in larger cities). I didn’t know what to expect as I’ve never done VIP before! I imagined he would hang out with us in a small room after the show, and autograph something/take a photo with every person in the room. Anticipating this, I drew a little angel for David! But I wasn’t able to give it to him.
Instead, we were ushered into another room/on the stage to line up for a quick photo with him, one at a time. The house photographer took the photo and it’ll be emailed to us later. David’s very mellow, and the whole thing went by very easily (this is the type of thing that gives me anxiety!).
Then, we waited in the VIP room and he came in awhile later with Asi Wind. Asi (Ossie) is a mentalist/magician from Israel and a super good friend of David’s who is traveling with him and doing one segment of the live show himself. I was standing verrrry close to David, as luck would have it! But I was too shy to want to participate in a trick. I watched him do about 5 card tricks at close-up range. They happen SO FAST! If you like a trick on TV, you can rewind it and watch it again. Live in person it’s just like – “Wow, what happened!” I thought since I’m into metaphysical/psychic things that maybe I could pick up on a “feeling” of what he was doing if I was close to him. But no.
Cool card tricks he did in front of me:
Putting the person’s card underneath their watch without them knowing, disappearing all the spades and diamonds out of the deck, using the number of letters in someone’s name to count down to their card in the deck, tapping the deck once and having a card move up to the top.
Everyone noticed that David had a Band-aid on his hand. We were all wondering if this is an injury from his ice pick through the hand trick!
I talked to a lot of people in the VIP room which made it fun. I sold my signed David Blaine card deck to one of the aspiring magicians there. In the VIP bag, you get the signed deck of cards, a mini black-and-white poster (I stepped on mine when I put it under my seat and ripped it), a cool black baseball cap with the DB logo (I’m wearing mine right now and it is comfy and cute!), plus the tote bag which is black canvas. We were supposed to also get a special laminated VIP badge and a laminated ticket that you can keep as a souvenir but the show guides told us a bunch of stuff got stolen! I guess from a truck parked outside the venue in Colorado Springs. They are going to mail them to us later, someone said.
What is David Blaine like IN PERSON?
Very mellow. Like he is in his TV shows! I sensed a flicker of anger/annoyance when someone, instead of taking back the signed card he was handing to him, shoved their cellphone in his face and just kept recording. And wouldn’t take the card he was handing them, so they could keep recording. It was rude, honestly. All over the venue it says NO RECORDING or PHOTOS, but during the last trick in the VIP room he actually asked everyone to take out their cellphones and record it. Some people were broadcasting it live on social media. Maybe he wanted that done to promote his tour?
When we went for our photos with him, the show guide said DON’T TOUCH HIS HANDS. The rules were you could fist-bump him (gently) or hug him. But when we met him, he grabbed everyone’s hands for the photo poses! I talked to someone afterward and we both said we were afraid to touch his hands after the warning. We didn’t want to hurt him. The reason was his hands are getting beat up from the tricks and stunts he’s doing. This live tour is 40 cities with a grueling 3-day on, 1-day off schedule. He said he is only eating on his days off! Poor David! He wanted a challenging pace to make the whole tour a Houdini-esque test of his endurance. I’m thinking he chose 40 cities because of Jesus’ 40 days struggling in the desert?
What was he wearing?
He always wears ALL BLACK. Black t-shirt, black jeans. Even his tennis shoes are black! I took a psychic development class where the teacher told us artists and musicians and entertainers often wear black because they have so much colorful stuff going on inside their heads…they like to keep their clothes simple, like a blank canvas.
Merchandise for sale:
Black or white t-shirts ($30) and baseball caps ($25). I’ve heard other venues were selling cards. Maybe these got stolen? Or they sold out?
